Modern Mind Therapy is a collective of practitioners dedicated to offering high quality psychotherapy to clients throughout California. Our diverse team of licensed and associate level therapists are trained at some of the top clinical programs in the country. Each staff member at Modern Mind Therapy has the highest levels of education, expertise, and is trained in the latest and most effective evidence-based treatment methods.
When you first meet your Modern Mind therapist, we’ll spend some time getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask about your goals, your story, your strengths and challenges. Together, we’ll develop a plan for how we can work together.

Sarah Taylor is the clinical director and founder of Modern Mind Therapy. Sarah founded Modern Therapy on the principle that quality, mental health care should be accessible to all. Sarah began her career in community mental health services and has practiced as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2016. Sarah received her B.A. in Psychology from U.C. Berkeley and received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. Sarah has extensive experience providing psychotherapy to adults, families, couples, and adolescents in private practice and school-based settings. She is trained in evidenced based practices and utilizes an eclectic approach that's specific to each clients' needs.

Julie Scudellari is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC 13574) at Modern Mind Therapy, working under the direct supervision of Sarah Taylor, M.A., LMFT. Julie completed her master’s degree in psychology at National University in San Diego, California. She is experienced working with diverse populations, including adolescents and adults. Julie specializes in working with clients who have anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma. Her integrated approach focuses on helping clients improve mindfulness in everyday practice and work toward implementing positive changes in their lives. By utilizing Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and strength-based methods, Julie guides her clients to help them explore solutions to the problems and challenges they are facing.

Mariah Alves is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) at Modern Mind Therapy, working under direct supervision of Sara Taylor, M.A. LMFT. Mariah completed her M.S. in Educational Counseling with the LPCC concentration from the University of La Verne. Mariah also received a B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Stanislaus. Mariah began her professional career as a School Based Family Clinician serving the community with resources and mental health services, passionate about supporting individuals and families on their journey toward healing and growth. Her approach is compassionate, client-centered, and rooted in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed counseling. Mariah holds experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who have anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD. Beyond her clinical work, Mariah is the author behind Riah Writes Publishing, creating mental health journals that provide meaningful support, personal growth, and fostering positive change. She specializes in creating a safe space for clients to feel understood and empowered to work toward their goals, navigate challenges, and build emotional resilience.

Frances Schivley is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist working under the direct supervision of Sarah Taylor, M.A., LMFT. Frances earned her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University in Fullerton, California. After graduating, she completed her EFT Externship training in Emotionally Focused Therapy with Dr. Sue Johnson, the founder of the EFT model. Since then, Frances has provided individual, couple, and family therapy using the evidence-based EFT approach for nearly six years in both private practice and community clinic settings. She has developed a special focus on repairing attachment injuries and working through betrayal with couples. She also specializes in helping individuals heal after the pain of relationship loss and heartbreak. In addition to EFT, she is trained in EMDR, ACT, CBT, Gottman, and various other evidence-based practices. She offers a unique combination of education, training, and experience to support clients as they navigate their healing journey.
